Trade Cooperation

Nigeria is a resource-dependent economy, where the price of resources such as oil and gas influences economic development. The country ranks 6th in the world in oil production (approximately 1.5 million barrels per day) and its exports. In absolute terms, it is one of the largest economies on the African continent.

According to the IMF, the country's GDP in 2024 was $252.1 billion ($1,083 per capita), with an estimated 2025 GDP of $285.0 billion ($1,200). The main sectors of the economy include services, 21.2% in industry, and 20.8% in agriculture.

Nigeria occupies a significant position in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and is a driving force for regional integration in Africa. The country is also increasing trade with the BRICS countries.

For the Belarusian economy, Nigeria is a promising, rapidly growing, and capacious market and a strategic trade and economic partner on the African continent. Its stable economy, high population growth, and early market development have led to a significant strengthening of its position on the international economic stage. Demand for goods and services within the country is clearly expected to grow in the coming years. Against this backdrop, the Republic of Belarus is systematically and dynamically developing bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Nigeria.

Belarusian tractors and agricultural machinery continue to enjoy great popularity in Nigeria. A comprehensive project is being implemented to supply Belarusian agricultural machinery, establish a service network, and establish an assembly facility. As part of the Roadmap for Strengthening Partnership in Agriculture and Food Security between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of the Republic of Belarus for 2024-2029, in 2025 more than 2,000 tractors, approximately 7,000 units of trailer equipment, 10 grain harvesters with adapters for harvesting corn and soybeans, and approximately 9,000 spare parts kits were delivered. In 2026 delivery of tractors, trailers and agricultural equipment is planned. The second stage includes the creation of modern service centers with mobile service teams, and the third stage includes the establishment of an assembly facility in Nigeria.
