Political cooperation

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Ghana were established on June 5, 1992.

Belarus' interests in Ghana are represented by the Embassy of Belarus in Nigeria, and Ghana's interests in Belarus are represented by the Embassy of Ghana in Russia.

In February 2016, in the framework of the 52nd Munich Security Conference, the meeting of the Minister of foreign affairs of Belarus V.Makei with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana H.Tetteh was held.

In April 2016, the first round of the Belarusian-Ghanaian political consultations was held in Accra, the Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Belarus V.Rybakov.

In August 2018, the second round of the Belarusian-Ghanaian political consultations took place in Minsk. The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Andrei Dapkiunas, the Ghanaian – by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Mr. Charles Oviredu.

During the consultations, the sides discussed current issues of the bilateral agenda, the state and prospect for the development of the Belarusian-Ghanaian dialogue, the export of belarusian services in the sphere of education and medicine, the possibility of expanding the legal framework of bilateral relations.

On September 24, 2025, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, M.V. Ryzhenkov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

On March 3-5, 2026, a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, M.V. Ryzhenkov, visited Ghana to enhance bilateral cooperation. Meetings were held with the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama (who confirmed his readiness to pay an official visit to Belarus on June 5-9, 2026), the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, S.O. Ablakwa, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, E. Ofosu-Ajare, and the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, D. Dumelo.

On June 5-9, 2026, a state visit to Belarus was held by the President of Ghana, D.D. Mahama, the official and business delegation of this African country. On June 8, talks were held between the leaders of the two countries. Alexander Lukashenko and John Dramani Mahama agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation. The President of Ghana visited the BELAGRO International Exhibition and was introduced to Belarusian agricultural machinery and technologies in agriculture, including dairy and meat production. A Belarusian-Ghanaian business forum was held, attended by approximately 150 business representatives. Several important joint documents were signed. A joint intergovernmental committee on trade and economic cooperation is expected to begin work in the near future. The parties have begun to develop a roadmap for bilateral cooperation.
